Many of the newer centrino notebooks have an ON/OFF switch to activate the built in wireless features. If you are unable to connect wirelessly, this is the first place you should look. Also, if the switch is in a place where you can bump it accidentally, it's the first place you should check if you loose wireless capability.

...LOL
and not just with Centrino notebooks either. My brother-in-law has a Hewlett-Packard with this "wireless" button, which is located directly in the middle above the keypad (next to the screen). I had a hell of a time trying to help him figure out why his wireless wasn't working. I uninstalled and reinstalled his NIC, replaced cables, reset the router, tried using a static IP address, you name it...
...and all I needed to do was turn the stinkin' thing on!!!...:)
Good tip, Classic :D :D :D
Yah, got the same problem before. I spend almost 3hours trying to figure it out thats why i post a thread here on how to properly approach a problem in wireless networking. i was so dumb after knowing that it has to do only with the wireless button. I think most of the laptop nowadys has this features. What a dumb ass i am... :) :) :)

Many newer laptops have this feature to allow you to save power when on the road and not using the internet. My gateway has it and just about anytime someone uses it they get stuck with the same problem. I like to leave it off if I am not in an area with wifi and forget to turn it on. There is some sort of override I have heard rumors of but know nothing about.
