Updating Windows without OE

System has XP pro. I thought I could go to the MS site, download the updates, review them and then install. I keep getting the message that I need IE 5.0 or later which I am sure is on the pc as the XP was a recent install. It doesn't go beyond that screen. Is there another site to download updates, not directly from MS?

Your title and your thread say 2 different things. What are you saying?

Is this about email or Internet Explorer?

You're NOT gonna get IE to update if you access the MS update site with anything other than IE. Period.

If you use firefox and then GOOGLE for the patch (you need to know the patch numbers) by its KB number. This will allow you to downloade SOME of the patches. The most vital security patches but not hardware updates etc.
