New guy here, Hi all
Is this a waste of time, I have a 3yr old system 478-pin P4 2.4 533Mhz 512 1G 2100ram a GF3 ti200 (agp4x) and win 2000, I have a new Ati radeon 9800 pro card, Just wondering if its worth to upgrade the motherboard only! to use it, or do I need a new cpu and faster ram. Any suggestions on a motherboard. Thanks

I don't think a mobo upgrade just for the sake of it will buy you anything there. The CPU is fine, you either have 512 or 1G of RAM(can't tell)--512 is fine, 1G is better, and the new video card alone will reap benefits.

Thanks pop pop
Sry should of said, 512 L2 cache, I have 1G of ram, My MB now is a intel 845Max2 the manual says the agp slot is only 4x (1.5volts only) , the 9800 is 8x 4x, if I install (and am I safe to install)the 9800 it would only run at 4x anyway?, so no gain there,

Yes, it's safe to install that 9800. And the speed of the AGP bus has nothing to do with the speed of the vid card. That's just how fast data will go from main RAM to the vid card, and AGP 4x is fast enough even today. Like pop pop said, going from a GF3 to a R 9800 is a major improvement! Your games will run a lot better!
As for the mobo upgrade, depending on your budget and your needs, a mobo alone won't cut it. A full core upgrade would be a better idea for gaming performance and for upgradability, because what you have is far behind what is available today.
