I have this CD ROM that sometimes will reject a CD and eject it (basically it wont read it). It will do this for any cd, then sometimes it will work. I have tried other CD Roms however no luck.
Any suggestions.
I am using a Celeron Motherboard. Intel 433Mhz 64mb Ram - Windows 98. I tried to use 200 however the problem still occured.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

The basic question is, "Are you running Anti Virus software?"

If you've been removing and adding CD-ROMs to test, chances are you probably created some "Ghost" drivers.

REBOOT and begin tapping your F8 key to get into SAFEMODE. Right click on MY COMPUTER and slide down to PROPERTIES. Click on DEVICE MANAGER and locate your CD-ROM. Click on the (+) and highlight the CD-ROM and click on REMOVE at the bottom. If there are more than one instance...repeat the procedure. REBOOT and let Windows locate and reinstall the drivers.

If your version of 98 does not have the generic drivers necessary you may need to have the diskette handy and steer Windows on over to your A: following the prompts.

Thanks for your help,
I will try this, this is really weird as i havent created any images with Ghost or set any anti-virus software (not even on the bootsector via the BIOS).

I will see how i go http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The "Ghost Drivers" I'm refering to are of the "boo" variety...they don't have anything to do with Ghost software! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Essentially, as you install and reinstall a drive without removing drivers, you wind up getting multiple sets of drivers that have trouble deciding who's holding the door open so the others might pass through.

Sometimes they might even all get wedged in the doorway at the same time...thus the CD-ROM door opens so one might pass to the hereafter! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sorry about that http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif I got a bit confused over the 'Ghost' expression. No Worries.
Its not the drivers in Windows as Windows has just been installed cleanly on one CDROM (no other drivers / CDROMs).
Basically whether your in Windoze or not a CD will be rejected when it is inserted (ejected). Thru trial & error I disovered when i changed the IDE Controller (in the BIOS) to just the primary (HDD), and not both (Seondary IDE Master (which is the CDROM) the CDROM would accept CD's, however obviously it wont function as a CDROM. I am guessing its an on board problem or IDE Connection prob.
I am going to get an update http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif for the BIOS.
Any suggestions or other things I should try.

Thanks
~Olie~!

For wherever you are electing to place the CD-ROM drive are you setting the jumpers to coincide?
