I just registered for this forum today, though I've been bouncing around it for a week or two now checking things out. I'm impressed!

The thing that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside is the positive attitude that people display here...and the unending patience. Let's face it, the world of geekiness can be a bit harsh. The "l33t" (do forgive me if I get the silly hacker-speak wrong) tend to think "noobs" are below them, and will often respond to simple inquiries in an uneccessarily rude fassion.

Not here. No matter how silly the question, no matter how clueless the questioner, each is met with and honest, courteous, and very helpful response.

So, on behalf of those of us that enjoy this little hobby (and need a little help from time to time), thank you, oh gods of geekiness, for being good pals :)

OK. What the heck is a "l33t"? I've been a geek all my life and that's a new one for me.

Don't feel bad pops, I had to look it up earlier too. I've seen l33t and other l33t t4lk but never looked it up till today. Funny thing is it was the same link Steve posted for you.

Personally I think it's l4m3.

Now if someone were to talk in hexadecimal I might be impressed. :p

Not to change the subject, but the same reasons I joined up here is the sense of community that exists here. I have made friends all over the world and gained an amazing amount of knowledge in the bargain. It's also nice to know there is place you can go and spend a little part of each day helping others without leaving your home....

In other words they just copy my standard spelling?

Am I a geek or what? I followed the BBC link and followed a reply that was in binary. Further on in that link was some hexadecimal, but neither explained whether the coding was ASCII or EBCDIC. I can't remember translations of either so didn't try, but I must be mad to even question the standard. I would guess ASCII due to the prevelance of IBM initiated standards.

See what happens DigitalJ? You make some excellent comments about the forum, all of which I agree, and look what happens. We end up with a conversation about l33t, binary, and hexadecimal. Classic even tried to get things back on track but nooooooo...... :p

I love this forum. :D

Haha! Maybe you should change your percentages in your sig to another base! :p Have you ever worked with prime number bases? Weird stuff...

Yes, I agree that it's very nice around here in the sense that you can ask a question and get a reasonable and even friendly answer. We encourage newbies around here (it's too late for elite speak for me) and in fact I enjoy curious minds when it comes to my areas of expertise. It's nice to know that most of the people around here are not just content to know how to get things to work, they also want to know why & how they work. If I say a certain vid card is better than another, most of you want proof! ;) And that's a good thing in my mind.

Hey all,
this site ABSOLUTELY ROCKS AND ROLL!.....
here i sit, 2yr old on my lap asleep, wife thinks i'm putting him to bed..fact is i cannot move...i find another thread that intrigues me too much and that's it,
gotta read, gotta understand, gotta ask the obligatory Qs to Saph,
gotta learn more about myworms and hijack from Bud,
gotta see the amazing knowledge of Paleo, Classic, Paul, Ernie, Orion, Prnthd on display (forgive me other noble omissions)
and of course IXL and ability to get? courses per gratis, grazie

i'm supposed to be doing a correspondenc course in pc, but i find no time for it as i constantly am able to find something here that is both...hands on and solving something
(wish there were more hours in the day...now my legs fallen asleep, heck, i'll just have to sit here till morn....)
