Hi All,
I've got a thread going on this forum about my PC being slow to respond since upgrading a few parts including an ethernet card. All programs were slow to open at first but that seems to have changed. Now only my Internet Explorer is being slow to bring up web pages and can't handle Windows Update at all. I have an older PC that is running lightening fast if I connect it to the net with the same cables.
An Eircom (my service provider ) support tech had me run a check on my download speed and as that was okay (even now a movie trailer on apple.com just came up fast )suggested I run a virus and spyware check, which both came up clean.
Then I noticed this - whenever I unplug the broadband modem the PC that is giving trouble shows an icon in the taskbar that look like two monitors (which stays there until I reconnect) and a quick message that says "Local Area Connection 7 - A network cable is unplugged".
Do you think I've got the wrong type of ethernet card?
It's a Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC.
If I shouldn't have started a new thread, sorry, but I thought it would get better attention.
