If you read the forum FAQs on signatures, you will find this:

After you have registered, you may set your signature. This is a piece of text that you would like to be inserted at the end of all your posts, a little like having headed note paper.

The operative word here is text. I know some forums allow it, but I'm sure Charles is concerned about conserving resources, after all he pays the bills! :D
