DSL - vs - Cable - in Price

Now that Verison and Yahoo joined forces and ofer DSL at $ 15 a month.Do you guys and gals think that the price of cable will go down.

I think it will. Look @ the automotive industry. The employee discount started with GM, then Ford jumped on then Chysler. You have to shift gears if your competitor changes its prices or products for the better.

Verizon has also added wireless broadband in certain cities throughout the States, and says it will keep growing.

That's good news, especialy that I do not want to "downgrade" to DSL.
Plus I think that the old phone cables in my building (I belive they are from the 50's) could not handle DSL.

Comcast has actually raised prices because they market their Internet as the Cadillac of broadband, and they do have big pipes to offer. Basic connection with 3-4MB download speed is much faster than 384K-784MB DSL.
The Verizon/Yahoo DSL and SBC/Yahoo DSL offers are targeted to attract the defecting AOL dialup customers by offering a faster connection at lower than AOL prices, not to go after cable users. These are also "teaser rates", the price goes up after the introductory offer term expires.
When the Telcoms actually offer fiber speeds, then there would be some competition between cable and the Telcoms.

Suchy, FYI, the telcoms first test the line quality before they offer DSL in any form.

In Philadelphia, Comcast has NOT lowered the price, they just upped the speed to 6MB download. Great for me.....

If the technology is PPPoE, pay more and get cable. PPPoe sucks and has major problems. I would not touch it

What about uploads, what is the max of your conections?
my is about 45kb/s - I think that is very slow.
DSL is probably slower, is that correct?

Maximum download speed of 4Mbps (or 6 Mbps) and upload speeds of 384Kbps (or 768Kbps) depending on the product that is selected.
Of course your speed may vary, and depends on the equipment in some cases.

Hey that's not fair Classic. Road Runner hasn't raised mine yet. I'm still at 5 Mbps down and 512 Kbps up. :p
