What a fabulous site this is!

Here's the problem. My PC suddenly powers off and there is a LOUD high pitch that continues until I shut the power off on the back of the box. When I do that, the little BIOS beep (that sounds once when the PC is booting) sounds for a second with the pitch of the tone rising.

If I leave the comp off for 10 secs, it boots up and all is fine.

Thinking that it is a cooling issue ... hot day and heavy use of the machine ... I pulled the side cover and actually rigged a house fan to blow air into the motherboard and all was OK.

Then, there are other times when I turn the PC on (having left the power switch on the back of the case alone) using the normal front button and the machine starts to load and then stops with nothing on the monitor. When this happens, the only cure, again, is to turn off the power (back of case), wait a while, and begin again.

Any intelligence on this. I'm trying to finish writing a book due on 30 Sept. and this is not helping, at all!

Thanks,

Pintel
