I just bought a new case+PSU, to replace my old generic case and PSU. I've transfered my hardware to the new case, and hit upon a problem. On my motherboard, (ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe) there is a 2x10 slot ATX power supply socket for the large PSU power cable thingo to plug into. My old PSU had no problem with that, because it was also 10x2.
However, things have changed since I built my PC 2 years ago, and now the PSU comes with a connecter with 12x2 pins for my 10x2 slot motherboard.
So, my question is: Do I need to buy a new, older PSU, or can I just get some sort of adapter?
Thanks

You can buy an adapter. Look here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812101122

My powersupply came with a 24 pin atx power connector but you can use just 20 of the pins for your board, the last 4 are somewhat disconnected from the other 20. I wouldn't try that though unless you are sure your powersupply was made that way.

i just built a system and ran into the reverse problem...
the motherboard had a 12x2 connector and the power supply only a 10x2.
after much swearing about what a dumba__ i am, i checked the manual that came with mother board. i found an * next to power supply connection stating that there no problem putting a 10x2 connector into the 12x2. What's more is that you don't even have to worry about putting it in the wrong way...the connectors are shaped so that they will only go in one way.
so maybe the reverse is true for you...maybe those extra four pins are there for moral support.
good luck
