Helo, I looked up some of the latest motherboards and found that AW8-Max intel 955x supports most of the cpu including Pentium (i know u guys already know it). Anyways, i'm not an expert on computers and i was wondering if u guys could give me some ideas or answer some questions about this motherboard.

-955x supports hypertheading technology, does this mean if i pick P4 as my CPU i'll be running P4 with HT tech? If i am, does dual core work with HT tech too?

-Why does this only have 2 PCI slots and what are the PCI express? My current pc has AGP slot but the 955x doesn't have it.

-Is this good for all around pc such as movie/music editing, artworks/adobe photoshop, gaming, and other stuff? What else is this motherboard good for?

-Does my 450watts power supply from my old pc work with this motherboard?

Well thats about it. i have asked the main subjects that i wanted to know about this motherboard. thank you for the help, i appreciate it.

1) Yes, as long as the P4 you select supports HT. Dual core will work but not all dual core Intel CPUs support HT. In fact, right now only the 840 Smithfield does and it's very expensive at $999! (so is this mobo, though).

2) That mobo has 2 PCI, 2 PCIe x1, and 1 PCIe x16. Almost everything you could possibly need is built into it. Those slots are more than enough. PCI Express (16) is the new standard for video cards. AGP is in its death throws. Forget AGP. You'll need a PCIE16 video card.

3) Properly equipped, that mobo will handle anything you throw at it.

4) Depends on the old PSU and what you put into the PC, but in terms of just power, 450watts should be OK. As expensive as that board is, I would want a solid PSU driving it.

Yes, the PSU should have all of the proper connectors to the mobo. Some of the older PSUs use a different connection than the newer ones.

Also, WELCOME TO THE PC GUIDE FORUMS!

thanks for the help. i actually bought it yesterday and i'm impress on the changes that they made(i have a 4 and a half year old comp....LOL). Your right, its more than enough slots. There were no problems assembling it. so far i have a little problem (hopefully) with ".Net/MS.../FRAMEWORk....dll <== unloadable" which i'm trying to figure out. And other than that.. everythings great... thanks again for the help and welcoming me here in the furum.
