Ok ok, I know you guys might be saying, "Man Barto is annoying," BUT I need to ask you some more advice on upgrading my PC. I am planning to upgrade my CPU's processor and add another gig of RAM. As for the earlier question about my VGA, I'm sticking with my 6800GT for while (maybe for another six months or so :D ). Now for the question(s):

I want to upgrade the processor. I am leaning towards a AMD 4000+ San Diego. I do overclock and game A LOT online. I was thinking of buying an AMD X2 4200+ or 4400+. So it's between the AMD 64 4000+ and the AMD X2 4200+ or 4400+.

- FIRST question: Is it a good idea to buy an AMD 4000+ San Diego right now? I've heard there was going to be another higher end processor coming out on the AMD 64 (939) series????

- SECOND question: With the stated two processor series above, should I upgrade to a AMD 64 4000+ or an AMD X2 4200+ (or 4400+)??? Please consider the fact that I do a lot of online gaming and I do overclock (well maybe not necessary if I upgrade).

I appreciate all who respond and give thier input. Thanks again.

Hey, asking is how you learn. People here are great about answering any sort of newbie type question. I should know, I've asked alot too.

If your allways chasing the high end stuff you'll never get anything. Look over Saph's sticky, that will help you choose a cpu based on your budget. Right know though I would go dual core-you will not be sacrificing alot in speed, but you will be on the wave of the future.

If you do alot of gameplaying, I would go with the 4000+, if you do alot of multitasking, go with the dual core. (the 4000+ has higher clockspeed)

About the rumor of a better cpu on the 939 socket, I don't believe that is true. AMD is releasing their new socket (M2 or something like that..) in january I believe.

It's all good. Well other games I play are Doom3, Half-life 2, FEAR (when it comes out, man I love the demo), and Battlefield 2---->to name a few aggressive games. I play other games too like RA2, Starcraft, etc. First of all, I am more of gamer with hardware lust, kinda bad addiction, but I like to think of it as good investment. :D :D :D. Plus I love to overclock. To answer your question, what type of games you play?? This reflects what type of gamer are you too. If you do a lot of heavy 3D games, such as I, then I would go for a high end CPU and video card or "extreme" in my case (remember this is more of hardware lust though:D). A 3200+ or 3500+ venice or san diego is enough for most games right now. Especially if you are on a a pretty tight budget. Trust me. Also a decent video card in the 6 series (6600GT, 6800, etc) would be plenty for many aggressive games today. Remember also, although others might disagree, the love of gaming is what makes a gamer, not the hardware. I just got an addiction :D. I hope this helps you. All for the love of gaming ;) .

Aaaah hardware lust, so a setup like a amd 3200 venice 64bit and say a geoforce 6600GT and 1gb of ram is quite enough, but i suppose if you have more money you can afford the real beastly stuff.
