ON/OFF problems

My laptop was working fine and then I took it with me on at trip. I
ended up not using it and when I returned home the problems began.
When I turn it on I have power for about 5 seconds then a funny noise
and the comp shuts down. If I press F12 I have power but no
screen to work with, just a blank screen. F7 and Fn pressed at the
same time does get the comp fully operational and all works fine. Except
I cant reset the comp, it just shuts down and wont reset as it should.

HELP!! Please

Maybe a broken switch? How old is your pc? My dell, when frozen, won't let me kill it be hitting the "on/off" button, but my families old pc will.

I got it a year ago August. It was a trade in, they insist the
laptop was brand new at the time of purchase. Lately I have
had to shut it off manually because of frozen screens. Sometimes
it would take a few trys to get it to shut off.
