Hi,
I have a PT4 and my OS is Win XP Pro SP2 ( all updates included ).
First thing, when I try to connect to the ISP I often get the message: couldn't connect because computer didn't responde in time. I talked to my ISP but they said, there must be a problem with my OS. It seems to be true because after rebooting the com and connecting, the Internet works. But it works not long. Sometimes five minutes, somestimes half an hour. After that time the computer is connected to the internet, all devices working properly but no traffic goes on. I have to restart the computer and then it works again. Really annoying.

What could cause the problem?
Thanks for your help in advance.

What type of Internet connection do you have?
What modem or router do you have?
If it is a Dial up connection, try to uninstall the driver of your modem and get the latest one and have a fresh install of the driver. You must also re- setup the dial up connection. You might also need to go trough your modem manufacturer website for the latest updates regarding XP SP2.
Some may have other ideas so keep posted.

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

I suggest running a HijackThis log to make sure you are not infected with malware...

To run HJT, extract it to a permanent folder such as one
you create like C:\HJT. Close all open windows and
browsers and make sure that all programs are enabled if
you use msconfig. Run it and Scan, then Save the log.
When the log window appears, Right click to Copy it, open
your browser and come here to Paste the entire log. Do
not make any changes until it is checked since most items
are either benign or essential to the computer.

I have a highspeed internet connection. There is for sure no problem with Malware. I've already installed the OS new. But the problem is still there.

Thanks for your answers.

When you say you installed the OS new, did you wipe the drive and start with a clean slate??

I did a absolute clean install. First I formated all drives on the HDD with Linux Suse 9.3 and after I installed WIN.

The next time you have the problem go from Start to Run, type in "cmd"(but with no quotation marks), click OK and at the command screen type in "netsh diag gui" (again no quotes) and hit ENTER. A new window will come up. Then click on the "scan test" option.
