i think it was the virus

hey,
I have windows xp and i have just recently come back onto the internet i have downloaded quite a few things so far. and then my computer started giving me error messages about there was a problem in windows explorer and the i click on dont send error report(i have clicked on send error report before) and then my desktop dissappears and then comes back on again but in the taskbar what i was currently doing at the time had gone. so i downloaded a virus scanner of the internet and it founed a trojan virus it was deleted by the virus scanner. was it this becauser i keep getting the error messages still but not as often

If you're still getting the same error messages, problems, etc., that you got with the virus, then the antivirus program you d/l may not have completely removed it from your system.
Either get a good antivirus program, like McAfee or Norton, or do a reformat and reinstall.
