Ever since I've been on this site...Ive heard some not so nice things about Norton AV and McCaffee as well...that they are resource hogs and tend to cause a lot of unnecessary headaches...heh

Late this afternoon my boss found the Trojan Virus on his PC. We ran NAV which is what we have...and it was able to find and delete all but 3 infected files.

So I restarted his pc and used the NAV to boot. After booting from the CD ROM the NAV begins it's scan and says there are no viruses and tell me 0 infected files were found.

However, those 3 infected files are still on my bosses pc and are picked up when running in WIN XP.

Is there something else that can be done to properly delte the files? I'm home now...and I didn't write down the file names. But I was just curious if anyone has gone through something somewhat similar to this.

NAV is a decent antivirus, it is just overly bloated and complex... It is also a major pain to totally remove...

As for the infection, it may actually be a virus or it may be a trojan or it could be any number of other malware types... Ones that NAV recognizes, but doesn't remove are usually something other than a virus... I would start by trying an online virus scan or two to see what happens with them... I would then also try Ewido and do some spyware scans... Also, if the files are in System Restore, which is quite possible, the only way to get rid of them is to reset System Restore and create a fresh Restore Point...

The reason the boot CD does not detect the viruses is the definitions on the CD are old......

Follow Budfred's advice and do an on-line scan.
