Hi Everybody, ;)

I hope I'm not wasting anyones time. I was just wondering if anyone had an old laptop in the closet or the garage they don't want. Nothing fancy, obviously. I've never had one and I was just looking for a starter that somebody doesn't want so I can experiment and broaden my computer experience to a more mobile level.

I don't go around looking for handouts or charity, I just wondered if somebody had one they didn't mind offing if I pay the shipping and even throw in a couple bucks for inconvenience. I've had things like that before. I'm just in a real spot financially right now for a while.

Like I said, nothing fancy. Just something around 300 to 400MHz, at least 64MB RAM, around 8 to 12GB HDD, basic CD-ROM even if it is slow, NO OS and I don't care about condition as long as it is all functional.
I don't care about pressure points as long as the screen is viewable. I don't care if the case is cracked, broken or partly missing. I don't care if the battery is a paper weight as long as it has a PWR supply. I would prefer at least a modem and ethernet port but if not, then at least a PCMCIA slot I can put them into. I just need something I can put Win98 or WinME on. A floppy is preferable but not needed as both my 98 and ME discs are bootable. Just something I can start learning about laptops on and use as a back up when my desktop is down.

If anyone does, like I said, I'll pay the shipping and even throw in a couple bucks for inconvenience. I really, really appreciate it!!!

And if no one does, can anyone point me to web site for PC recycling that donates older ones? I've looked everywhere and they're hard to find. The ones that you do find, will only donate if you are affiliated with a school or something. But there are a lot of graveyards out there that will let you walk in and pick and choose for $5 or whatever if you're lucky enough to live near them. Just none where I live.

Anyway, thank you all very much for even reading and considering. Let me know.

Have you tried eBay??

A working laptop can be used by any number of agencies that rehab them and send them to countries that need the technology to develop... You are likely to have difficulty finding someone who will just give one away without even being able to take a tax deduction... If you just want a backup computer, working desktops are typically much easier to come by with a little dumpster diving... We have had stories of people finding some pretty nice ones here...

Also, I have purchased a number of things from these folks. They are a lease-back seller division of their parent company that leases computers etc. to major corporations...

taz480,

I want to respond to the signature you are adding in your posts in other threads since this is your thread... It seems a bit rude to post a link to another tech support forum in a tech support forum... I do not know that we have a formal policy for it, but it certainly is borderline SPAM... I suggest that you remove it and that you also not post about PC Guide in the other forum since that could look like we are trying to SPAM them... If you decide you wish to continue with it, I will consult with the other Mods and ixl to see what they think...
