I was wondering that, too. I was banned off TIMO for asking that. I was also asking if anyone had on old, old lappy they would off for just shipping. I'd pay. I was told I couldn't post asking/begging posts. I wasn't begging. I have that question posted here, too and you guys don't seem to mind. TIMO is a nice forum, but a little stuck up.
Anyway, I'd like to find a place like that, too. I'll keep watch. If I find somewhere, I'll let you know. You can do the same.

Dumpster diving for computers...I've been there. :)
Here's the best advice I've got on that. Wait until Christmas. Find a few relatively upscale apartment complexes. Right after Christmas you'll find many computers in the trash. People get a new computer for Christmas and many of them throw that old, slow, spyware infested piece of junk in the trash.
Also be aware of thunder storms in your area. Many computers bite the dust during thunder storms. But it's usually just one or two parts that are fried. Homeowners and renters insurance pays for a new unit and the old one is in the trash.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't post this. Find a corporation or any company. I've been in the RV repair business for about 9 yrs with two diff companies. Thay would throw out all their wkstations when the upgrades came in. 10 or 12 at a time!! Monitors, PCs, kbds, everything! A lot, like holy cow a lot.

A lot, like holy cow a lot.
Holy Cow a lot ?!? :D
Never would have thought about those.
It's terrible that people/companies just dispose of computers in the trash instead of disposing them in the proper place.

I work for a large not - for - profit organization and we are continously needing to get rid of pallets of old PC's at $0.40 lb. We have given away units to some of those that have asked for them.

Suchy, I work and live in Sacramento, CA.
Since I was first employed with our organization of just over three years now, I have seen, no kidding, at least fifteen pallets of older PC's come and go from our regional distribution center. I have helped to retrieve five additional pallets, two of which were loaded with monitors, from one of our facilities. They were all overloaded. stacked to six feet high and of course wrapped. Just to let you know when I said old I meant old like P2's with MMX most with 34 - 128Mb Ram, up 40GB HDD (mostly 20GB), CD Roms and Win 95 & 98. There are five pallets in our newly expanded portion of our center waiting to go. At least we do have them recycled! Did I mention DELL.......

Any computer company that sets up recycling is doing the right thing.

Another good place to dumpster dive is at a college or university at the end of a semester.
The university that I work at has the garbage company set a 40 yd dumpster at each dorm and the students fill it with stuff that they don't want or can't take home.
The end of the spring semester is the best time because most of the students won't be coming back for summer classes.
The student apartments off campus are good too!
When you have 10,000 people moving out of town all at once it is hard telling what you will find.
