I am a neophyte in upgrading a PC. I am frustrated w/ my current HP 800mhz 128MB 30GB HD which most of the time hangs up on me (froze!). I wanted to have a faster processor, a higher GB HD. I am in a lot of researches and a little gaming. What can I salvage from my current Pentium 3 PC? Thanks!

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!! :D

What can I salvage from my current Pentium 3 PC?Umm... your CD/DVD drive(s) and floppy drive and maybe your hard drive (as a secondary HD). That's about it. Basically, you'll be looking at buying a whole new system.

I'd have to aggree. Its time to donate the old box to charity and build yourself a nice new PC. Fry's and Newegg are great.

if he transfers the hard drive wouldnt that save him some money on an OS also? although the pc sounds kind of out dated the OS could be updated right?

No no, can't transfer the OS. This is a common mistake that newbies make (no pun intended :p). Putting a hard drive with an OS into a new upgraded computer is akin to transplanting your brain into a dog's body. It just won't work.

Having a CD of WinXP means you can install it on any computer that meets the requirements. But once it's on the hard drive, the generic installation turns into a customized OS with drivers for that particular hardware (ie you can't move it now).
