I have been getting this message ... i need to press F1 to get to window mode, os:win xp pro
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SMART Failure Predicited on Primary Master: Maxtor 5T040H4
WARNING: Immdeiately back-up your data and your hard disk drive.
A failure may be imminent.
Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP
Um...that is not a BIOS problem, it is a hard drive problem....it is time to either look into the drive's warranty or go shopping for a replacement. In the meantime DO NOT use the machine you may not have many boots left...

Hi Kaede:
Like MJ said - That is a message saying your hard drive might be on it's way out
Back up any critical data the very next thing you do
SMART uses differnt benchmarks like the floating height of the head above magnetic media, data throughput performance, Spin up time, seek error rate, seek time performance et al depending on manufacturer
Smart looks for degradation of performance in these benchmarks and gives this or similar warning at a predetermined threshold
There are some external causes for a SMART alert such as environmental changes like high or low temperatures, excessive vibration, Electrical interference from motors or other devices on the same circuit as your PC are all possibilities

thank for the reply
but i can defrag my com and can save thing as usual... i had contact the hdd vendor but he say that maybe my bios are not set properly
Well did the drive vendor suggest running the diagnostics tools on the drive?
Grab the Maxtor diagnostic tools and run them...if they return an error code then it is time to get going on finding a replacement. Just because you can do things as normal right now doesn't mean that the drive will continue to work tomorrow or even an hour from now.....
