Unable to Access/Modify Settings in BIOS

I need help, please! I used to be able to modify the settings in my BIOS by selecting the item that I wanted to change and using the Page Up/Down buttons, etc... to change the setting. Now, almost all of the items are dimmed out and I am unable to select anything. If I am able to select an item, I am unable to modify the item using the designated keys. I do not want to make any drastic changes, but I need to be able to make basic ones as needed. For those of you with some technical expertise... please let me know what to do? I am grateful for any help that you can give me.

I would bet the CMOS battery is going bad, how old is this PC?
I would also do a virus check at Housecalls (free scan, good and safe albeit slow). Note: best to run this in IE.
