Hey guys. Upon entering the setup for windows i hit f6 to install the drivers. People tell me windows xp needs the drivers to see the Sata HD. So after windows uploads.. i come to a screen where it tells me to press S to install drivers. The problem im having is that i do have a floppy drive. Its 1.44mb drive. i do not have 2 cd drives. My windows xp cd is in my only cd drive. It tells me to insert the cd-rom into disc drive a: which is my floppy drive. My mother board cd though has the drivers for the sata drive on it. But when i eject the windows xp cd and put in the drivers cd it will only read the floppy drive.
I have tried disabling the floppy drive so that it would only recognize the cd-rom drive but that did not work. Any suggestions? I thought about putting another cd rom drive inm temporarily to load up the drivers. Anyone have input on this or an easier way to do this?

Hey
I'm willing to bet that in your installation package that it said to insert the drivers CD before you install windows, unless of course you got only the HD, no box, as has happened to me before at Frys Electronics. Boot from the Sata HD before installing windows, set up partitons there, then try to install Windows.
Should help ya out :)

OK
Put in the SATA Drivers CD, boot from it, and install the drivers. This CD should be pretty explanatory, but since I dont have SATA HD's I cant really help you. When its done you should be able to install Windows.

Do you have your harddrive instructions manuel/booklet?
What happens why you just try to install windows? Not pressing anything, going about the windows installation, and seeing if it can see the hardrive?

the intresting thing is that when i select a bott device, either boot device 1,2,3 it will only let me select my floppy drive or my cd-rom drive... my sata hd isnt even showing up

It might not be formatted correctly. Are you sure than you can't boot from the CD when you have your boot order set to CD-ROM first? On my BIOS it has about 50 options to boot from that I dont even have.

i know the hd is running i can't hear it when i bott the pc up, but the bios doesnt seem to see it so is there a solution to that? i know it has power but maybe the sata cable is bad? or maybe the drive is bad... but if it is powered up and is running then maybe its the sata cable... im not sure of this

Check the jumpers and make sure the cables are connected properly.

the cables are connected properly, iv'e ran through that over and over. Reconnecting switching cables to make sure it was not a faulty cable ect.. but iv'e never tried the jumpers

OK
Jumpers are on the back of the physical harddrive. There is Master, Slave, and one that lets you select through your PC. The top of the hard drive should have etched in diagrams for you, if its new. Try tweasers or a tiny flathead crew driver to change them.
