Hello to all,

I have a Hp pavilion notebook zv6000. My wireless connection is great at home. The problem is at work I get next to nothing . They come up but will not connect or says nothing in range. I'm interested in buying a network card adapter for my notebook. I am thinking about getting a Netgear Rangemax Wpn 511 or a Belkin Pre-N Network notebook card. Can someone help me with these a recommendation or something. O/S is windows professional xp sp2 . Built in card is a Broadcom 54g 802.11b/g WLan with 125hsm.

Thank You,

Do you think buying another wireless NIC will give you better access? Well...it won't. Your connection at work is wholly dependent on a wireless network being close by that you have the right credentials to connect to. It sounds like you think that simply having a wireless card will grant wireless access at work? This is not so.

I have been connected at work but it is very weak. I have no trouble finding the networks it's keeping them. ;)

Hi hope I can shed some light on this problem.

No matter what wireless card you have as long as its installed properly, you still should be able to see any network as long as you are in range. "Roaming" for a wirelsss network shoud display any SSID's in range. Connecting to them is another matter, as they should be WEP encrpyted if they wanna keep there network safe. If there not WEP protected then anyone can join the nerwork.

To connect you need the same WEP key in your wireless card settings.

What setup have you got at work for wireless etc..

One of the biggest problems is the siting of the access-points. Walls and metalwork seriously downgrade the signal strength, and your company needs to install repeaters (access points which simply forward data to a central access point) if they require greater coverage. Other solutions include directional antennas (or larger antennas) or simply moving the access point.
