Those two RAM choices look the same. Or are you just asking if that RAM will work with that mobo? Yes, that mobo uses DDR2.

All the rest of the parts will fit together just fine, and will probably work really well. But to determine the quality of this design, we're gonna need to know your budget and your usage for this new system.

Hi Saphalline,
Thanks for responding. Yes I was asking if the memory will work with the mobo. Yes I did list it twice, I think I was up past my nighty nighty time last night.

Well, my budget for this project will be around 1200.00 (untill my wife finds out) . It looks as if I'm already at 928.00 without an OS and dvd/cd rw which I have not even looked at yet!

I will do some light gaming and light video/photo editing. This will be in the future around 6 months after I get this all together (need to save up for more toys). I know it seems like this is more than I really need but, I would like to have this to, well, to impress my friends, family, the dog, etc. etc.

SO, I'm thinking for now I could do without the separate PSU for now. Untill I get the money for a high end video card.

Well, let me know what you think of all this!!
Thanks for your time!!!! :)

Right now, I'm thinking you don't need a $250 mobo for that system. If you really want that mobo, go ahead. But you can get by with so much less. Check my sticky (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=39018) for mobo recommendations. I don't know, maybe you like that particular mobo for its 2 firewire B ports, but I'm sure there are cheaper options out there.

I'm thinking for now I could do without the separate PSU for now.No, bad! The PSU that comes with that case isn't ATX 3.0, and I wouldn't suggest doing without an ATX 3.0 PSU for a new system anymore. Again, check my sticky for good PSU's in many price ranges.

Ater reading your reply I think this may work for me!
Ok how about this mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127208
ABIT AL8 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard
$146.00
But you lost me on the PSU what is a ATX 3.0
Will one of you recommended budget psu's play well !
This one: Antec TruePowerII TPII-430 430W
Or should I stick with this one:
Seasonic S12-600 600W
Thanks Saphalline

ATX 3.0 = ATX 12V 2.0 = any PSU with dual +12V rails. That's not the only thing, but it's the easiest way to tell. ;)

Either of those PSU's you listed will work fine, with the Seasonic 600W being more expensive and may not be fully used by your system. 500W or more is really only recommended for SLI systems and/or those with tons of drives and expansion cards. If you will be putting 6 or more drives into your system or you just want it, then go ahead and get the Seasonic 600. You won't be disappointed in it.

Yes, everything will "play well with each other". ;)

I'm not a huge fan of ECS mobo's, though. I personally would feel more comfortable with a better mobo, but otherwise your list looks great. Oh, where's your case? Or are you keeping the one from your last list?

sassie05
09-26-2005, 01:28 AM
Yeah I think I will keep the case. It looks kinda cool. I will switch out the PSU. Which reminds me, are PSU's pretty much standard dimensions? Will it be easily switched out?
I may also go back to this MOBO
Abit AL8 (i945P) LGA775
:)
Thanks again

Yeah, PSU's are pretty standard in size (the only variation is length). Those two will switch out without a problem. The only PSU that you might have a hard time fitting is PC Power & Cooling's massive 850 unit. But at over $400, I don't think you'll be getting that one. ;)

No I don't think I need that for now. I am going to go with the Abit AL8 MOBO.
My total out the door from Newegg $1,151.91 includes tax and shipping.
Directly after work tomorrow I will go to the electronics superstore here in town to check on their prices. Which brings up the fact that it is way past my bed time. So, Thanks for all your help ! I'm sure I will need some assistance with the system. I'm glad you are here!
Thanks,
