Hi,

Yesterday, i helped a friend build a pc with the following components:

Abit AV8 Motherboard
Corsair TwinX Pro 3200 (2GB)
AMD Athlon64 3800
120gb Maxtor IDE HD
250gb Maxtor Sata HD
Nvidia 6800GT Graphics Card

The problem occurs when the 6800GT is connected, it gets power, but on boot the PC emits 1 long beep, followed by 2 short beeps. The 6800GT is connected to the VGA monitor via a DVI-VGA converter, but as soon as it is connected to the monitor, the monitor goes into standby mode (orange power light instead of green).

Does anyone know how to fix this? We have tried flashing the MoBo BIOS, installing the graphics drivers (whilst a FX5600 is installed), updating MoBo drivers etc.

The AGP slot works fine because we've had an FX5600 running in there fine, and we know that the 6800GT and the DVI converter (we tried 2) work because he used them in his previous PC.

If you have managed to read all of that and have any input, then please post as soon as you can. Thanks alot. :)

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!! :D

it gets power, but on boot the PC emits 1 long beep, followed by 2 short beeps.Have you checked the mobo manual to see what this means? The first thing that comes to my mind is whether or not you connected the extra power lead to the 6800 GT. That thing sucks up a lot of power and it needs the extra power or it won't boot.

The problem has now been sorted, it turns out the fan on the gfx card was catching on the motherboard causing it not to seat properly.

Ooh, very interesting. A physical problem.

Thanx for posting back with the solution. It helps us out tremendously.
