I just returned from the evacuation from hurricane Rita and I set up the computer again. I accidentally plugged a broad A/C Adapter into a socket on the surge protector nearest the switch, so that it was lying on top of it. When I went back to plug in my dsl modem (the computer was on), I bumped it a few times by mistake, causing it to flip the switch on and off several times very quickly. So the computer turned on and off several times at a rapid speed. Now when I try to boot, I get a message saying "BOOT DISK ERROR" and "INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE". I tried booting from the windows xp cd and opened the recovery console. Every time I tried to do anything to the C:\ drive it said that it was invalid or something; it's the same message that happens when you're in DOS and you try to access a drive that doesn't exist. I tried then to go to the installation screen. It shows the available partitions/spaces for installation. Underneath my partition it says that the drive cannot be accessed. I pressed enter anyways and got a blue screen saying that windows was shut down to prevent damage or something like that. So it seems I can't access the hard drive at all. What could be wrong? Is the hard drive failed? I am stumped!
