Black screen after reboot

Windows XP Professional.
With no reason after a reboot, after the icon WINDOWS XP (boot in progress) the screen becomes black and nothing happens.
What shall I do ?

press F8 at boot to get to help/boot menu.

choose "last known good configuration..."
