I just set up XP Home on a second computer. What happens after the 30 days if I don't activate it? and if I do activate it over the net, what will happen to the 1st computer?

You would be in violation of the MS license unless you called them and arranged for a second license.
It just wouldn't let you activate it on the second computer. It would tell you that the copy had already been activated on another machine, and give you a number to call.
After 30 days you will be locked out of the OS until you activate it.

Ouch!! ok guys thanks for the heads up. I certainly dont want to do anything 'illegal'. I basically just wanted to experience a dual-boot w/ M$ & Linux.

Well you can 'experience' as much as you want in 30 days! :p After that, only Linux will work.
Additional licenses are actually cheaper than buying a whole new copy of Windows on CD. Call them up for current pricing, but another Home license should be pretty cheap.
If all you want to do is try it out, then go ahead and try. Just know that after 30 days you won't be able to use Windows unless you pay. You can try it out, and in the meantime look into how much the extra license would run you. Then if you want you can buy a license and activate, or choose not to.
Also you won't be able to get any updates until you activate it, or disable the Microsoft Genuine Advantage tool in IE.
