If I installed XP media center on partition 3, on my dual boot of windows 2000 (partition 1) and xp pro (partition 2), will it override the boot setup thing? WIll I still be able to boot into any OS I want?

I have never tried it personally, but generally Windows boot loader, NTLDR, is a very agressive install. It will write over whatever is in the MBR of the HD that it is being installed to. That said it usually plays pretty nicely with other versions of Windows, and will give the option to boot into whichever you want pretty easily.

I mean is that will I be able to boot from any of the three OS'es by just installing Windows MCE onto the 3rd partition? Or will I have to edit the boot.ini file?

Yes! The installation was a success. I have a triple boot set up now. Gave it a wee 20gb. But all the media is in the other partitions and told the Media Center app where the pictures/music/videos are. Awesome OS. Very cool.

Is MCE really all that much better than XP? I have a copy sitting around but haven't tried it yet. I might use it though if I ever build a dedicated media box.

Hmm... :D

It is pretty neat-o, but it is the same as any other XP. It just has the Media Center and a "Energy Blue" appearance.

I removed it, since I have no use for MCE. I removed the MCE start up in the BOOT.ini and I formatted the MCE partition. Then I installed it over XP Pro, (which is still XP Pro). XP Pro is fine, but I reboot into 2000 and I get a disk scan for Z and it gives me loads of characters coming at a rapid pace. My mother comes in and says the PC is gonna crash, restart. I restarted and booted back into 2000 and skipped disk checking. Now look at this:

EDIT: Fixed it with the disk properties/error-checking utility.
