Internet Cleanup 2.0

Just decided to upgrade to full version of ZA and got Internet Cleanup bundled with it. It also has a spyware detection and it found a "baby" called Alexa (which AdAware hadn't detected). Did some Googling and found: Alexa, zBubbles - Check your "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer, if you find an option that says "View related links" or similar then Alexa is watching you. Alexa and zBubbles log searchstrings and addresses for pages you visit. Alexa comes with Internet Explorer if you do not explicitly deselecet it.

Ran with it and removed alexa and that menu has now gone from IE. I just hate that http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif when you are opted into something like that by default! Could be coincidence but browsing seems to have speeded up since too.

I saw somewhere, possibly here , that Alexa is activated by clicking on the view related links in the toolbar. Otherwise it sits inactive. Internet cleanup sounds like a good tool. Thanks for the information.

I don't have that "related sites" in IE 6 in winxp, but I seem to recall having it at some point as an option on the toolbar in IE5.x, win98se.

didn't know what or where it was then.

ok what i have isAd-aware and everything else ok, I went to tools>All I have there is SHOW related links,Not View ok,clicked on it went to click on customize and the comp. frooze like a bad bearing,VSMON cauaed error in GDI.EXE??? Don't really understand whythat is my graphics card right?
This is windows MeWhy does it not let me have the option of getting rid of Alexia? OK got rid of error message's now I still do not have an option of getting rid of Alexia keeps coming back no matter what i do?

possibly you can't get rid of it while it's running.

Hi folks,

I too, have the "show related links" option under "Tools". My version of Ad-Aware doesn't show Alexa as spyware either. It's not listed in msconfig and I can't find it in "find files and folders". When I click on "show related links" I get the Alexa page, so I know it's there.

Is there any way to de-select this once you got it?

and there is a d/l for 'BHO Cop' which is supposed to i/d them and allow you to delete, have just d/l it but not tried it yet.

Anyone here running Internet Cleanup 2 on XP Home? It will not launch and it generates an error report. It runs on my WIN98SE drive, however.

Just done a reg search for alexa and found 1 ref to it in the DAP reg files. I backed it up then deleted it. Rebooted comp and started up IE again and it was still there. So it seems that even deleting from reg does not get rid of it. There must be another "hidden" ref to it in the reg http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

You can switch Alexa via the registry. Under


H-KeyLocalMachine/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Extensions/(c95fe080 8f5d 11d2 a20b 00aa003c157a)

one deletes this key with all sub entries!


I have found the key, but not deleted it as want to try the various progs to see if the can find it.
