SSID Problem

I have a D-Link 624+ broadband router at home and a PC with the compatible D-Link wireless PCI card. How can I stop my PCI wireless card from picking up other SSID that are about the area instead of my own. I obvioulsy want it to pick up my SSID but for some reason it always picks somebody elses.

Do I have to clone my MAC addresse in the router, is this the normal procedure for setting this kind of wierless set-up?

Also, is it best to use the software that came with the D-Link PCI card or let windows XP do the talking, so to speak!!
