What version of Windows are you running?
And try the above in Safe Mode......

Remove in SAFEMODE, Reboot, and then Windows will find it!

yes my sound did work before this happened
D/L and install updated drivers for the sound card.
If you're using the latest drivers, then uninstall them and install older drivers.
If that does not work, then you may have to back up, reformat, and reinstall everything.

I've had the same problem with my system twice. On booting up WIN98 no longer recognizes your sound card (in my case an OPL3-SAX from Yamaha) both times I needed to reload the sound card drivers (once downloaded from Yamaha, once from driver CD) but only after I had physically removed the sound card and purged the drivers from my system. ie pull card, purge drivers; shut down, startup; shut down, reinstall card, startup and follow plug and play directions.
Hope this helps.

Is this a PCI Sound Card? If your system is not finding new hardware upon REMOVAL and reboot, you may need to check your BIOS to ensure that Plug and Play is enabled.
Might help for some additional System Specs...MB, OS, etc.
