Running Nortin WinDoctor returns 3 invalid ActiveX/COM entries and 1 invalid file extension. They are all listed as "Medium" severity. I've rebooted and run WinDoctor several times with the same results:

Invalid ActiveX/COM entries:

1) Missing or Invalid Key: "MailFileAtt"
ProgID, "MailFileAtt", referes to an invalid ActiveX/COM
entry. "(00020D05-0000-0000-C000-000000000046)"

2) Missing or Invalid Key: "mapifvbx.object"
ProgID, "mapfvbx.object," referes to an invalid ActiveX/COM entry.
"(41116C00-8B90-101B-96CD-00AA003B14FC)"

3) Missing or Invalid Key: "mapifvbx.object.1"
ProgID, "mapfvbx.object.1," referes to an invalid ActiveX/COM entry.
"(41116C00-8B90-101B-96CD-00AA003B14FC)"

Invalid File Extension

1) Missing or Invalid Key: ".wll"
The file extensions, ".wll", referes to an invalid identifier, "Word.Addin.8"

I've also used RegistryMedic (Iomatic), Ad-Aware SE, Spyboot, PestPatrol and SpySweeper as well as WindowWasher (Webroot), but all to no avail. The same 4 messages shows up, and WinDoctor is not able to fix.

Please provide "How to" guidance to removing these entries.

sea69, thanks.
Ran dxdiag but found nothing wrong. Anything else I can try, or are the WinDoctor findings not important?

Bet you have Cool Edit Pro installed.

Here's (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+Missing+or+Invalid+Key%3A+%22MailFileAtt%22) a few other people that have your same problem.

;)

No, don't have Cool Edit Pro installed. Have other Adobe programs (Adobe CS, Premier 1.5 and After Effects).
If there is no software that can fix these issues, how can I do it manually? I've tried to delete them from Registry, but Registry will not allow them to be removed.

I'm running Win98SE.
Took a look in my registry at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wll" and the "Default Data" reads "Word.Addin.8" [no surprise there].
Scrolled down to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Addin.8" and exported the contents of my key to a reg [text] file changed to a txt extension and uploaded the file.
You can view that file in Wordpad or Notepad.
If you change the extension to ".reg" it can be "merged" into your registry.
Take a look at your own keys using regedit.
There's very little in that key, but I suppose every detail is vital in the registry.
You could check whether ["C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office\\Winword.exe,5"] that file and location [shown in my registry and exported to the reg file] is the same or different on your PC and whether icon 5 in that file is the one you want to be displayed.
If you think my settings apply in your case and your keys are missing, you could "Merge" the uploaded file.
Alternatively you could make any needed corrections and then merge it.

I'll show some images of my keys and data in the images below.

Sylvander,
the .wll folder has a subfolder Word.Addin.8, like yours. However, my Word.Addin.8's subfolder is ShellNew, not DefaultIcon. I tried to add a new key (new subfolder) but was not allowed.
Nowhere in the .wll folder did I find the C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft OfficeÒffice\Winword.5"

I've tried a number of socalled registry fix program, but none have returned any of the problems WinDoctor is reporting.

What's next?

"the .wll folder has a subfolder Word.Addin.8, like yours"
You reveal a lack of complete understanding of what's happening.
This can be dangerous when dealing with the registry, so move with care.
My .wll key does NOT have a Word.Addin.8 sub-key.
Both .wll AND Word.Addin.8 are separate keys under the main HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT KEY. That should have been plainly obvious from the addresses I gave as follows:
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wll"
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Addin.8"
Ignore the ShellNew sub-key, it does other things.

Scroll further down within the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key to the Word.Addin.8 key and examine it.

I see the same as TEF, Sylvander. It is possible your registry is different then ours.

Does any one have anything constructive to say that will help? This problem is still here and not fixed.

I believe those sub-keys add an entry to the "New" item in the "Context Menu".
Check it out by going to any folder right hand pane [or the desktop].
Right-click and go to "New".
You should see something like...
"Microsoft Word Addin"
or
Word.Addin.8

Because my registry doesn't have those "ShellNew" key settings, I don't have that item in my "New" item in the context Menus.

Here's the "New" item [sub-menu] in my Context Menu.
Notice there is nothing like "Microsoft Word Addin".

None of this is pertinent to his problem. :(

Well I tried as you said I think and ended up with nothing.

This is a bothersome problem and I don't understand why it happened in the first place. The only way I can think this happened was that I just recently updated word from microsofts update site. Yet I searced the net and have only found forums talking about this issue.

This is what you suggested correct?

"1) Missing or Invalid Key: ".wll"
The file extensions, ".wll", refers to an invalid identifier, "Word.Addin.8""

I was attempting to deal with the above particular problem.
I suspect that the Word.Addin.8 key is missing from the registry of TEF's PC.

I really don't want to get side tracked into why there is no entry in the "New" sub menu, but I suspect its also because despite there being a "ShellNew" sub-key, there is no complete set of keys necessary for dealing with files of that type [e.g. Word.Addin.8 and a complete set of its sub -keys is not present], therefore it isn't included. I cannot remember all the details of the conditions necessary for the making of a "New" sub-menu entry.

So there is no way to fix this Word.Addin.8 problem ? As you see it ? I have searched many places and found only stuff that has to do with "endnote" or has nothing to do with my problem. Do you maybe know what should be in these areas ? Or what this regisrty entry should look like ?

I had the same 'Repair Failed' problem with Norton WinDoctor. I think some Adobe software applies special permissions in the Registry. Try this:
Search the Registry for each Invalid Key. | Right click each and select 'Permissions...' | Apply a tick to 'Full Control - Allow'. | Run Norton WinDoctor again. | Select 'Delete Registry Key' from options presented.
It worked for me - although just to be safe you may want to back up the Registry first!

Good luck.

I had the same things show up with a did a CCleaner registry clean. CCleaner appeared to fix the problem when I fixed them with the registry cleaner.

This is a 3+ year old thread...

The thing about those kind of errors...if the system is working, then ignore them because they don't really matter. There will always be some of this kind of 'error'...bits and pieces left over from an incomplete uninstall, plug in/add in that isn't on your system but 'should' be...all sorts of reasons for them.
