I have a shared folder for computer, i have it looks like teh one on the left of teh picture i attache. but with a hand beneathe. Then I suddenly, don't know why, tried to change its name from MyFolder into My_Folder, but teh hand under teh folder dissapears. I now can not open teh folder anymore

I want to change it back into one that looks like the one on teh right of the picture.

Have you ever had any of such a problem ?? I also wonder why my shared folder suddenly becomes sucha internet folder instead of only a shared folder with a hand below. What happened ?

I believe that when you changed the folders name it removed the sharing capability. Right click on the renamed folder and scroll to "sharing and security" and click to share this folder. Hope this helps.

Thank you, that is why I asked how to change the left image back to the right one on the picture I attache, because right mouse clicking on the left image doesn't show "security and sharing" anymore (there is no hand under the folder but a irritating mark of connection). I can't open the file either, the message says I have no right to access it whereas I am not using any username that is different from teh origin.

If there is no solution anymore, I'd like ask for a way to take the contents of that folder out of it. I don't want to lose them.

I click on that folder and it says
you can't access \\somenet\contents, whereas that folder is put in my C: drive. I used to network some computers and used my full name computer as somenet and that folder's name was "Book Contents" which then I changed into "Contents" since it was a little 'messily' long, I think.

Which OS? WinXP?
I wonder if a Restore Point would take your system back to the way it used to be?
I assume the settings that specify which folders are to be up for sharing are in the registry.

Restoring a backup of C: would be best if you have one.

Yes, i am using XP.
I tell you the truth that days back I added up to make up my fodlers, drives a lot, I lost my connections with other computers as well for teh reasons I still don't understand, I think taht is why my file wasn't accessible anymore. I will try again and if no luck comes up for me, I will do as what you told me or worse, reformat my computer. Thanks a lot Sylvander.

Also, I have another question as to why my computer's full name still remains the same and I correct my folder's name back to the original one "Book Contents" but I again still get teh same error message...

I'm no expert on WinXP. Never had access to it. Only picked up info 2nd hand.
But I'll do my best to help and to keep your thread active until someone who knows comes along.
This folder that was shared and you renamed and is no longer shared...
1. Is it on your own PC, or on some other PC on the network?

"why my computer's full name still remains the same and I correct my folder's name back to the original one "Book Contents" but I again still get teh same error message..."
My understanding is that "Book Contents" was never shared. It was "MyFolder" that was shared.
Did you ever change the address of the folder [it's location for example].
e.g.
D:\My Documents\Family\Tree\Reports\Books\Decendants
D:\My Documents\Family\Tree\Reports\Book\Decendants

These two are not the same, can you spot the subtle difference?
But a PC will treat these as two totally different folders.

--zipping and extracting can help,
--remember files or folders with names that are not in Latin might be eliminated in the process.
--turn off both computers'firewalls for the shares to be enabled or system's services, registry need to be adjusted, which is unnecessary.

I tell you teh truth that when I ran into this problem two days ago, I also had what you now say in my mind already. But I kept thinking again and again, not really sure if it was going to work for me, and now it works good good again. Thanks anyway.

What did you do to fix it?

Use a Restore Point?

I did as what i explained in my previous post,
I winzipped it and then extracted it. It worked great. I got everything back now...
