My old faithful Xerox 5352C copier is giving me the message "Call for service" but I think it is automatically generated after so many copies. I don't have a contract with a repair service anyway, since this copier was donated to our nonprofit charity. There is nothing wrong with the copier to trigger this message.

I think there's a code that you can enter to bypass this message and allow it to work normally. I tried turning it off and back on, unplugging and plugging back in. Nothing works and I can't copy in the meantime. Does anybody know where I can look on the Internet for a solution--some kind of copier self-help web site? I didn't find one.

Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with the copier. With other copiers I've used, you get an error message periodically so that you'll call the repairman and they can charge you to perform "routine maintenance" which means they only enter that code and magically it starts working again.

Furthermore, the service telephone number shown on the display that I'm supposed to call is UUUUUUUUU. Hmmm. So I couldn't call even if I had a contract with Xerox.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You sound awfully confident that the copier isn't actually broken. How can you be so sure? I assure you, copiers can and do break.

In any case, the first thing you should do is Google your copier model number. I'd bet you a dollar to a doughnut that your toner cartridge is either defective or empty.

This looks like a multifunctional fax/copier?
There is a call code that will trip on most faxes for the ozone filter to be changed to meet OSHA and UL standards, the machine will do this based on number of pages printed.
The fuser web is the other common item to need replaced, if you don't get it changed it will kill the fuser requiring a complete rebuild (it will start to have severe jamming).
The final item would be the developer being due for replacement based on number of pages printed. This will cause a degradation of quality problem if ignored.
I cannot say anything about Xerox's policy of pricing for service, most vendors charge major league labor and parts charges to encourage businesses to get service contracts. It unfortunately does not show compassion for the ones who do not have resources. I would look for second source service, but be careful there too.

If you look, the After Hours section of the forums plainly states:

No difficult techie questions here, or else!

I wasn't sure just where to move this to, but Peripherals seemed appropriate.

You're right, Paleo Pete, this one should have been posted someplace other than the After Hours forum.

Just to see if it made any difference, I replaced the toner cartridge, but still get the call service message. This is a standalone copier, not a multifunction device.

I put the model number into Google, but only got a million hits from companies that want to sell me supplies for the copier.

There was no paper jam or other blinking light or message, which is why I don't think there's anything mechanically wrong with it. Whenever there is a paper jam or low toner or anything else wrong, I get that message on the display, not "Call for service".

I'm still stuck and can't get rid of this message or copy as long as it displays.
