Hi,

I have this problem that happens every time after viruses infected the system.
Nimda virus infected the system, then i removed it, reinstalled win98, but when i tried to install office, some windows starts to pop up continuously
that nothing else could work right.
is this an office problem, or the virus infected the memory, or only formatting the entire hard disk solve this.
I have so many questions too.

Thank You very much,

If you reinstalled windows over top of itself you have openned up another can of worms....quite often an over top install creates as many problems as it fixes.

Can you give some details on the "windows that pop-up", are they error messages and if so what are they saying?

Are you sure that Nimda is entirely gone...if a malware app infects memory when you turn off the system it is gone, but if it is still somewhere on the hard drive it will "reinfect" the memory every time you run your machine.

And yes if you installedover top without reinstalling OFFICe you could have an Office problem, most of the links and shortcuts would be broken.

So we really need some more information....

About Nimda:

Nimda is a tenacious little virus. My father is computer illiterate, and as such I get a lot of tech support requests from him. He managed to get Nimda via email (which is how it spreads). I cleaned it with McAfee, and with a cleaning tool I downloaded from Symantec (Norton). It's popped up many times since then.

Once you clean Nimda, my advice is to check out your hard disk over and over again, making CERTAIN it's gone. You can get a free online virus scan from Trend Micro (http://housecall.antivirus.com) which worked rather well for me.
