With Windows ME, and 384 ram, my system was fine. I bumped it up to 512 ram and I keep getting fatal errors. I bought another card to bump it up to 512 with a different stick, and same thing.

Does WinME have a problem with 512+ ram crashing the system?
Should I try going to 512 or higher after I get WinXP Pro?

Thanks

Take it back to what you had it will not run on the 512, 384 is about all you will get it to take. And yes XP loves memory

Yes, ME can have problems with more than 512 MB....you can edit system files to limit the amount of RAM available to Windows.

Hmmmm:

I have been running 512meg no prob on WINme for a year now - Damn, can't remember if 2 128's and a 256 or 2 256's but had no problems - thought limit was higher - I know I couldn't do 750 wouldn't even boot

But Maybe there may be some Mother Board issues or whatever that are contributing in combination with WINme

Actually old_kid....it is a configuration issue 512MB is the starting point for the problems...certain video card configurations will make it worse (Like AGP aperature size), certain sound cards/video card combos also seem to impact it somewhat. Whetehr or not you let Windows control things like the Vcache or set it yourself, several other "tweaks" have been known to impact it and finally on some systems it just plain works OK....
