I want to know if Apple really is releasing this OS. If they did, that'd be so cool...judging by this image from Google Images:

Yeah, didn't you hear? Apple is going x86 now. It seems that liquid cooling those latest G5 Macs was getting out of hand. IBM's Power5 CPU's are better suited for larger systems, not home PC's. Especially since Apple sells computers that aren't supposed to be opened by their owners.
So anyway, Apple recently made the announcement that they're going x86 soon. Not yet, but soon. Everyone expected x86-based Mac OS machines to hit the streets just weeks after the announcement, but as it turns out, the announcement was just a foreshadowing for a year from now. Whatever. Anyway, the first official x86-based Mac is due sometime next year. In fact, when I was researching Intel's new microarchitecture, I came across several references to Apple wanting to use Conroe as the first x86 CPU for a Mac. If that's the way they want to do things, we're looking at 6 months from now at least before we see these new Macs on the shelves.
I don't know exactly how wise a move this will be for Apple, but I'm looking forward to seeing how Mac OS does on our beloved PC hardware! It should make for some interesting options for home users from now on, both widening and narrowing the market. Kind of weird to think about that. In any case, I don't expect Apple will change their core ideas and make Mac OS a separate sellable product for anyone to buy and install, but I think upgradability of the hardware will be impossible for them to completely inhibit. I wonder how Mac OS would do with 4GB of RAM?... :D
