I friend gave me an HP Pavilion 7855 to work on. I've narrowed the problem to the MB or the PSU.
If he should decide that he want's it fixed, what is the best source of parts? Are there after-market MBs & PSUs that will work in this PC or is he stuck with buying from HP?
Thanks

With HP:
The PSU is generic, meaning any good aftermarket supply will work.
The mainboard is usually generic (Asus) but HP has restricted BIOS chips installed to make the model perform to the level desired by HP for marketing reasons.

The PSU is generic, meaning any good aftermarket supply will work.As long as it fits in that tiny HP mini-tower. PSU's have standard specs and dimensions except for length! ATX PSU's have been made in many lengths, so check the dimensions before you buy.
enviroko - If you don't buy that same exact mobo from HP, you will have to reinstall the OS. Which can be difficult if not impossible if HP's copy of Windows needs that particular mobo/BIOS to work. Just be warned, messing with the mobo complicates things greatly!
