Does anyone know if its possible to buy(UK only) a serial modem for ADSL, instead of a USB one. or would a USB be better?

I know little to nothing about ADSL modems, but I do know that communication between your PC and any USB device is going to be much faster than between your PC and any peripheral connected via a serial port.

Contact your ISP and/or visit their webpage.

The prefered method is having the modem hook into a Network Card.

I've never heard of a serial modem but nothing surprises me.

Gallaeglagh, how do you go about connecting your modem to a network card,
what do you gain by doing this?

Just from what I've heard that USB modems can be a bit finicky and sometimes slower. They also can draw a significant amount of power from the comps PSU.

A Network card is easy to install into a pci slot. Various different options if you wish to hook up more than one comp.

This site has lots of info on such stuff http://www.dslreports.com/
