We have an employee who is moving to another location with in the organization, so she is leaving her computer behind. Someone will be hired to fill the position. Now, is it possible to delete the old user but keep the files and create a new user it the old ones place? I will add them to the server as a user, so does it matter that a user account is just renamed as long as they have user rights? I am trying to avoid transferring all of those files from one account to another. Thanks for any feedback. :D

What kinds of files are you talking about, just regular saved documents and such? Where are they saved, some network drive? If so why not just delete the old user, but not the files you want to keep. Then you can just create the new user, and map a network drive to the folder where all of te old files are saved. I believe Windows will ask if you want to give the new user control of the files, and you can choose to and be done.

If they are saved on the local computer as a part of the old users profile then it becomes more of a problem. My best guess is that you would need to move all of the files you want to keep to some other location. Then give permission to the new user to use the files.

If all you want to do is change the name of the accout; control panel's user accounts will let you do this assuming you have the correct admin privileges.
