you are correct, but it did when I posted it!

seems there was a decision in a dutch court today (yesterday now) that gives music city - morpheus (2) weeks to stop serving mp3s or face a $40,000.00 a day fine.

morpheus is still up but music city site was (may still be) down.

I guess we'll see what happens. From what I understand this will not be that easy to shutdown compared to Napster or Scour. Users connect directly and search for files with each other. The creators of the fast track software were quite aware that this would come along and built a system to work on it's own. The system reportedly will operate without the central servers just fine maybe even better without being feed a constant stream of ads.

I'm with most of you. I think it's a shame about Napster and now Morpheus. I have downloaded a few MP3's from both these sites. Have never felt too guilty about doing it though. Mainly because I probably have purchased most of these songs in my younger years. Most of the time just to hear one song on lp's and now on cd's. Does anyone know anything about E Donkey or KaZaa? Another question: I am thinking about uninstalling Morpheus from my files. Is there anything extra I should do while doing this? I'm a little new at this pc business. Thanks

well... Morpheus says:

BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU CLICK
A recent press statement announced that KAZAA/Sharman Networks has a new program that allows you to re-connect to the Kazaa/FastTrack Network. This new program is NOT endorsed by MusicCity and will NOT allow you to connect to the Morpheus/Gnutella P2P network. We find it interesting that someone sent a message to your computer earlier this week which prevented your Morpheus Software product from joining the network and now a new software installer suggests that it allows you to re-connect. Remember with Morpheus, no spy ware just a great P2P software product.

The new Morpheus Preview Edition
This new software product uses a different method of connecting and searching for information. There are several key differences. Two of the main advantages are the ability to search both the WWW and the world wide Morpheus/Gnutella Network. In addition, the number of search results has been increased from 200 to an unlimited number. Our Catalog City shopping allows you to purchase virtually anything online. To learn more about how to use and enjoy the new features of Morpheus

but then as they were left out of the "loop", I guess they would say something like this.

gogreen- you should read a little closer.

kaazaar is the one that split from music city and caused morpheus to be down, Music City is also saying that kaazzar is able to change the registry in your computer. (this is not good)

limewire I beleive is part of the new morpheus.

Spent a few hours with the new Morpheous this evening. All I can say is yuck.

Dont know what to make of all of the rumors floating between the Morpheous and KaZaA camps. Seems like a bunch of he said, she said mumbo jumbo. I find it amusing that just prior to the shut out Morpeous was assuring us that there were no security concerns with their software. Now they say use the new program and dont switch to KaZaA.

I used Kazaa, and it is loaded with spyware. There is a section to opt out of the spyware when you install, and Ad Aware didn't seem to find anything, but I must say I'm concerned about it.

The new Morpheous could be great, but seems unnecessarily complicated. I hope they make it more user friendly.

I'm not suggesting anyone use Kazaa or Morpheous, just relaying my personal experience with the two choices.

Good Luck!

It seems though every time a p2p network closes [or in Morpheus' case goes bad]a bunch more pop up. Morpheus goes bye bye and up springs Direct Connect and eDonkey. The RIAA/MPAA have dragged their feet so long getting something going that's legitemate and good it's no surprise people turn elsewhere.
