Hi all,

I just recently did a system restore. All was well. Today, I had purchased a cam and it went haywire about 20 minutes into using it, was only snapping pics, anyway, I defragged, ran a diagnostics, looked in my config and unchecked a bunch of junk on startup. My system resources was showing 71% before I did this. Cleaned out cache, cleaned temp files in case something was lurking, ran a virus scan etc. Everything looks fine to me, but system is still showing now resources are at 86%. This is even if I am not connected to anything. My usual resources were over 95% free and that was before I did a restore.

Is this a normal percentage that I am getting? Sometimes I notice too that something is using ram. I have 256mb ram and sometimes it is reading 255 instead. This is when I have nothing running and have totally shut down the system and restarted it. I woudl think whatever would be using that woudl have been released.

Thank you in advance for any input...going to post about the cam issue where it should go...

editI merged these two theads since the problems appear to be stemming from the same thing.

Hi all...again..lol

Bought a new webcam yesterday. Install went fine. It's a Creative Webcam Instant. After install, rebooted. it worked for about 20 minutes, error pops up says out of memory. I had only snapped one picture and none of the other features of this cam were on, it can be set for motion sensory and will run for 5 seconds if it detects motion but I disabled that. I closed the program, tried to re start it, hourglass cursor forever, ctrl-alt-del, said program not responding. Closed, rebooted, retried..same thing. Checked to see if any conflicts, only thing came up was about my NVidia driver which it needs updated but if I update then I lose textures in my games. Anyway, I don't think that is the issue...uninstalled everything for the cam, drivers and all. Re installed, rebooted. Opened program, nothing. Got a box after a few minutes where the picture would be to snap the photo, but it was only an outline and would not close. CTRL-ALT-DEL and again, program is not responding. Ran diagnostics on system, everything was fine. ( thought about kicking it ), decided to run virus scan instead, all was well. Defragged, rebooted. Now, I don't even get a box, but I get something looks like the scroll bar at the right of this text box. About a half inch long. Again, could not close it, ctrl-alt-del again, restarted. It keeps saying it is not responding but I get no error messages or anything. I've had 3 cams on this system in the past and never had this issue. I went to the creative site to see if a driver update was the issue, there are no updates available for this product.

Now, I may just kick it. :d If anyone has any ideas, please let me know...I would greatly appreciate it.

Did you run AdAware and SpyBot Search and Destroy? If not, I'd run both of these and then run HiJackThis and post a log in this thread...Something could be amiss. AntiVirus software does not pick up the scumware/malware junk coming down the pipe these days...

The Win9X/Me operating systems do not do well releasing system resourses. Usually, the only way to get them back is to reboot. Your problems appear to go beyond that since you've rebooted and they're still getting eaten up...
