no LAN icon

I've just reinstalled xph.

ethernet cable plugged into a netcomm m/router which is close to new.

I have no LAN icon under networks. There is no light on the NIC itself.

Would this clearly be the nic failure?

It was all working ok before i did the install. Have not yet installed sp2 but im sure that has not much to do with this.

Are you sure that the NIC has al of the proper drivers installed, and that the NIC is working?

Check in device manager to be sure.
