I'm still having problems with my pc starting. When I turn it on I don't get any display with video card or onboard video, there is no beep from the speaker, and the fan will run but I can't get it to start. I've tried everything that I can think of to fix it, I just got a new athlon xp 1900 and it still won't work, I tried changing between motherboards, I cleared cmos, I tried a different stick of ram and tried it in different slots, I removed all of the optional devices like agp cards and sound cards, I tried plugging and unplugging ide cables, and the last thing I tried was my parents 200 w p3 powersupply from there gateway and it did most of the same thing execpt for the cpu fan didn't work and I thought I heard the hdd starting up but it still wouldn't work. My specs are athlon xp 1900, ecs k7s5a and pcchips m10lr mobo, 512 mb sdram, and 60 and 80 gig hdd. I really need to get this to work I can't think of anything else to try execpt for a new powersully thats not from a p3, and also does this sound like a powersupply problem?
A 200w psu probably won't have enough juice to start up that beast...kind of like trying to start a car on a lawnmower battery.
If you have pulled eveything and tried it with the motherboard sitting on a piece of cardboard then the only thing left is the power supply.

I haven't tried the cardboard thing. So do you stick carboard under the board while it's in the case?

Hi Goober:
Have you a Multimeter - can you get a reading on between yellow wire and black ground between 11-15volts on P1 connector??
Have you tried disconnecting all drives power connections(not just the IDE cables) to see if you can at least start to boot??
Adding my penny's worth::
I don't know about that cardboard thing - ESD & all - some paper products can store a charge
But Mj's idea seems the best bet Goober - unplug everything down to MB, cpu, RAM and see if it boots and gives you a good 11-15 volt reading as noted above - then add in one device/driver at a time
Rule of thumb - take 200 watts and add 50 watts for every 2 devices/drives - sounds like you need at LEAST 300 watts

Is there a chance that it could be that 300 w isn't enough becasue I've got a athlon xp 1900, 80 and 60 gig hdd, a burner, geforce 3, sound blaster 5.1, and 3 fans?

Do you have a 440volt outlet handy?..joking..lol..with that many drives and that speed you really need to get a 450 watt at least. It may or may not solve the problem at hand, but if you dont it may cause alot more down the road. Id start with that and go from there.

Try this procedure -
1... Replace old m/b battary with new one.
2... Remove RAM form the slot.
3... Push power button. The system may or may not beep.
4... Wait for about 2 minutes.
5... Clean RAM terminals with cotton cloth.
6... Clean RAM socket with a dry brush.
7... Now replace the RAM with good working RAM.
8... Boot Now. If it boots. Work for about 10 minutes.
9... Shut down the machine.
10.. Replace RAM with your own RAM.
11.. Boot Now.
90% of the time when this problem arised, this procedure worked for me. A lot of time its the problem of Memory frequency mismatch.
