Yahooooo, I got my first virus. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yea, I know. You're all thinking "What a nut case!" hmmmmmm, maybe http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Anyway, I sort of let it in just to see what happens. I wasn't positive it was, but seemed suspisious. Here are the details.

Virus name: Win32/magistr.b
Attachment name: GSWFA.com
It came to me from a friend in an automated E-mail.
Upon downloading, there was an .exe file in my download folder. When I double clicked it, I got what appeared to be a Touchpad-mouse configuring program.
My friend sent out a warning mail letting me know what was up. He said PCPitstop (http://www.pcpitstop.com) removed it and all was well.
On my system, AVG found 12 infected files (sheeesh, it was only on there for about 2 minutes) but could not remove them (Compaq driver files http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif ).

Hope nobody else gets it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I can't say that I haven't wanted to back up my system and see AVG in action though...

If you use Sysrestore remember and delete all your restore points as well. The check that you are still clear. Can't remember which virus it is but there is one that inserts its self into Sysrestore points as well.
