Hi All,
Please help....

I have just built a new pc,but for some reason the bios only detects the processor speed as 1.1ghz when it is a AMD Athlon XP 1700+, which should be around 1.5ghz at least.

The motherboard is a Nforce MSI K7N420 Pro which supports AMD cpu's up to 2100+

As far as i know i have setup the Pc correctly and it boots fine, there is know mention of jumper changes for the processor as such in the manual.

Could it be the power supply with the case? That is the only thing i can think of?

There is also a high performance setting in the Bios but surely it can't be that..

Please suggest

Many Thanks

Won't be a power supply issue..how many watts is yours by the way?..may have to enter the bios and correctly setup the processor..and im seeing people all over the forums having to keep updated bios for these new boards..but it may be a simple adjustment needed within yours..that should get ya feet wet untill someone more in the know of your board show up.

Is it a totally jumper-free board or a combination of both jumbers and BIOS settings?

Make sure you have both set correctly if a combination. Also many of the newest boards are one or two steps back on the BIOS.

i got a msi kt7266 pro it had the same problem. it is a bios setting you must set. click on the high performance tab and it should set you to the right speed . i run a amd xp 1600+ with running it on default it runs it at 1ghz but high performance it runs it at its true speed 1400mhz. hope this helps

makes perfect sense if the high performance tab bumps the FSB upto 133Mhz.....

XP1700+ properly set will run 1463Mhz. This CPU
has a multiplier of 11 by default.

You are posting a CPU of 1100Mhz because the Bus Speed
is currently set at 100. 11 X 100 = 1100Mhz.

Change the Bus Speed to 133 either by jumper on the Mboard
or within CMOS(BIOS) and the processor will perform
as designed. 11 X 133 = 1463Mhz.

Luck.
