FX or Dual core [Archive] - The PC Guide Discussion Forums

I decided to buy an AMD, I use this programs:
-Premiere pro 1.5
-3ds MAX 7
-Encore DVD

As you see these programs need a powerful PC to work efficiently.

FX or Dual? Wich should I buy?
FX is good for single tasks, Dual core for multi tasks.
Is the term "task" equal to "thread", here?

I like the avator. About AMD/Intel. Unless you are also planning to do more gaming than those programs you listed, I would suggest you go Intel. It is proven that they are more efficient at such programs- but AMD are better at games. Would you be willing to go Intel?

Yeah, I agree. A PentiumD 820 would be a much better CPU choice than an FX or X2. Plus, it would be much cheaper!

Give it some thought.

Buying intel is not an easy choice for me.It is 7 years I am using AMD and gathering information about it. But OK I'll go for it.

IMO, it isn't about brand loyalty or supporting the underdog, it's about buying the best tool for the job. If you really want to buy AMD, go ahead. I won't argue with you about it - I'll even help you pick out the best AMD tool for the job. But in terms of my recommendation on what is the best, in this case it's Intel.
