This may be malware or it may even be your AV freezing the PC for a short while.

Whats an AV and how can you get rid of malaware?
jcnoernberg
11-21-2005, 10:11 AM
AV - Anti Virus... If you have some, try disabling it and see if that helps at all. If you have no AV, then...
To get rid of malware, download "HiJackThis" from www.tomcoyote.org/hjt, run a sytesm scan and post the results, someone here can then help you from there...

this might sound daft but i had a similar problem with a logi mouse, tried everything - lots of differant drivers but it turned out to be the flex was worn out inside the mouse and it was losing power! thankfully it still had 2 weeks of garantee so i got a new one free

It could be the problem...but it's happened with the past 2 mouses I've had. It might be a software related issue...i dunno.

Hi!
:)
I had this problem on a box not that long ago.
But that was with a PS/2 mouse.
No matter what mouse I tried, old or new, the pointer would lock on the screen.
The PC itself was still OK, cos I could drive my way out of the system using the keyboard to shut the machine off, just the mouse would not work.
I tried removing any mouse-drives, and having the standard OS ones built into the system, etc, but the mouse still locked up.
In the end, I fixed it by swapping to a USB-PS/2 adaptor thing, allowing me to connect the mouse and keyboard to a USB port, and everything has worked fine since. It was the members here who suggested this to me, and it worked, so you are in the right place! ;)
Now, I know you kind of have the reverse problem, in that your USB mouse is freezing.
What i want to ask, is can you put a PS/2 mouse on your machine, and see if this cures your problems? This is a small round socket on the back of the computer, colour-coded green(to match the colour of a PS/2 mouse plug! :p )

Can you provide me more information on this matter?

ralfsmith,
If you have questions, please ask them publicly or start your own thread to ask them... In addition to it being a bad idea for you to publicly post your email address since SPAMbots will find them and add you to dozens of SPAM lists, it is also a bad idea for someone here to respond to a request like yours because we have no way to know that you are not collecting addresses for SPAM yourself... You also give NO indication of what information you are seeking... Info about mouse problems could take pages and pages to give if there is no clear question...

With reference to Budfred's comments(which I agree with, BTW), I would be most happy to discuss things in more detail - here...
Thank you for offering the e-mail address, but I think it might well be worthwhile for those on the forums, if the problem is discussed publiclly(?)...
Please ask some questions, and I will try to answer them!!!

jbird001,
I just noticed that you have an HJT log posted and there is one malware item as well as an optional...
Please open an HJT scan put and check by:
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/ei/FunBuddyIconsFWBInitialSetup1.0.0.15.cab
This is the important optional... It is from Logitech and is part of what they use to update their software, but it also is able to collect data about the user that may be sent back to the company... I would not keep it on my machine, but it is your choice:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe
These are also ones that many people have had trouble with... Your choice:
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZRfox000
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net\partypokernet.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net\partypokernet.exe (file missing)
After you decide whether or not to check the optionals, close all open windows except HJT and press Fix checked...
Reboot and post a fresh HJT log...

What BIOS Version are you running ?
I've seen a Problem when someone upgrades their BIOS Version or has a New version
and PS/2 does not work properly ( A bit like MIni Me's Problem )
Either try Upgrading or rolling back a version.
If you have not done this before be very careful and read All instructions completely as can screw up your Motherboard

WELCOME TO THE PC GUIDE!!!
...and use a good battery if it is a laptop, or a UPS if it is a destop/tower machine. If there is a power-cut during the BIOS re-flashing, the results could be - unfortunate...
(if the power fails during BIOS re-flashing, generally, the BIOS is corrupted(as the re-write was not completed), and the machine cannot start ever again, unless you are able to source a new BIOS chip, but if it is surface-mounted on the m/board(most are now days), then you will kill your m/board. Would make a nice bit of modern art, pinned to the wall though! :D
