ac97 sound problem

I have a realtec ac97 soundcard. after rebooting the sound is very choppy with a rythmic interuption.

i have tried reinstalling the driver. is there any way of initializing the sound system to restore normal working?

The card is onboard, o/s is xp.

any ideas appreciated.

Try a different driver either from the computer manuf's site or the MB site.

If no luck, then do a virus search, and remove any spyware with Ad-aware and Spybot.

It might also help to just uninstall it and reinstall it. The driver, the device, or both. Also check your IRQ's and make sure there are no conflicts.
